2024/5 was a successful season having entered more teams into competition than we have for many years. We have a strong core of players that have helped this.
I would like to thank everyone involved for making the season so successful, it is a team effort and everybody's input is vital for the continued success of the club

Summer Programme
We have a number of events over the Summer. Club nights will include some rapidplay competitions and some tuition/ coaching. A full programme will be published shortly as will be the date of the AGM.
Discover Newmarket who run the racing museum, are holding an event on the 19th July. It is around the history of racing and is illustrating this using chess. We have the opportunity to use the garden to promote the chess club. We need four of us on the day to do this volunteers welcome.
We are also looking at a summer of chess programme with the club running on Saturday mornings weather permitting from 9 to 12. We need two volunteers each week on this. Can anyone who can help contact me. It will only run if we know we have the cover from August to mid September by 15th July as we need to promote it.
All dates etc related to the above progeamme will be published shortly.

The annual AGM is planned for Monday 19th August. Please be there.
We need to know what teams we plan to enter into the BACL next year.
If you can not make it please let Charles know the extent of matches you would like to play next season.
Wiyh some new stronger players we are currently looking at one team in Div2 and possibly 2 in Div 3, plus a RG team.
There is an argument that would give a team in each division which would give us more flexibility, but could prove to be a very tough season.
We have set up the club rapidplay, all plays all
Note all games to be played by the end of August.
Thoroughbreds continue to have games in hand that are need to catch the pack in division 2, we have risen to a mid table position in Division 3. The Roger Goldsmith sees us languishing at the bottom of the division, but again with a game in hand that could prove useful.
