Not much good news, we a adrift at the bottom of division 2, so unless we have a remarkable form change we will be playing in division 3 next season. We got to the semi final of the Roger Goldsmith Champagne Tournament but went down to a closer match than the eventual result suggested to Cambridge Porters who heavily outgraded us.
Season Update 16th Feb 2008
Both teams are neck and neck, but inconsistancies have left them trailing the mid table teams but a good victory each, should see them back in the main table. The Bury St Edmonds Chess Congress was held 27th- 28th October at the Corn Exchange in Bury. Four of our players went, 3 entered the intermediate section, and Dennis entered the Minor - he came out with as respectable score of 2.5, our intermediate players had a more torrid time of it!
This was held on Monday 17th September at Moreton Hall - one and a half teams - 6 people turned up to represent the Newmarket club,. The event was won by Linton for the second year in a row. The full Newmarket team came 5=.
Newmarket Chess Congress was held at Turner's hall on the 16th & 17th June. Local interest was represented by Stephen Pride (Cambridge Club) in the open who scored a respectable 2.5
